The vagina is shaped like a collapsed tube. The front and back walls of the vagina usually sit together. Vaginal gas is caused by air entering the vagina, being trapped and then expelled from the body. Vaginal gas has no odour but can cause embarrassing vaginal noises. When air escapes from the vagina this cases the walls of the vagina to vibrate. The vibration causes queefing or vaginal noises as air is forced out of the vagina.
Causes of queefing or vaginal gas include:
* Vagina anatomy
* Pelvic organ prolapse
* Vaginal looseness (laxity)
* Pelvic floor muscle tightness
* Pelvic floor surgery
How to Control Vaginal Gas
Vaginal flatulence that doesn’t bother you usually doesn’t require treatment. Queefing or vaginal noises can cause embarrassment and sometimes interfere with regular activities and relationships.
