Launched on the 11th of February 2010, the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) had its first light and started sending back images to earth on March 30th 2010.

On April 21st 2010 NASA held a news briefing to unveil initial images from the SDO at 2:15pm EDT in the atrium of the Newseum in Washington.

This video is a collection of these initial images thrown together with a few older ones from other sources and some footage of the launch to celebrate this momentous occasion.
