Lucy Bearman-Brown from Hartpury University and Louise Wilson from Conservation Canine Consultancy are looking for hedgehogs, which are currently hibernating. Henry the detection dog is funded for by PTES and The British Hedgehog Preservation Society and is trained to find the hedgehogs. Hedgehog nests are very hard to spot with the naked eye and the destruction of their habitat means hedgehogs are too often killed or injured by machinery when land is cleared for development or just to look ‘tidy’. With a sense of smell 100,000 times more sensitive than ours, Henry is very helpful in finding and helping to protect these hedgehogs.
