This weekend, I'm finishing off those wide, narrow-footed bowls I demonstrated the creation of to help a potter from the pottery subreddit, which yes, I lurk and enjoy and occasionally post on. I hope you find this little tutorial helpful and if there are any pots you'd like some guidance with, please do leave a comment with your ideas.
These forms pose quite a challenge due to how much the walls overhang, so I show you how I throw pots like this with clay left purposefully in the foot, so that it acts like scaffolding almost, to keep the piece from collapsing as it's shaped. Come the leather hard stage much of this support clay is trimmed away and the narrow foot is revealed.
Next, I show waxing, glazing and finally the reduction firing, before unpacking the pots are unveiling the glass-clad objects, which I end up being a little unsure of...
