The ability for shipyards to move material – and ships – around the shipyard efficiently is paramount to ship production efficiency and profitability. At the center of the shiplift world is Bardex, a company that since the 1960s has engineered hydraulic lift systems. Today, as Daniel Toerner, Regional Sales Manager, Bardex discusses, the company is melding heavy lift tech with new tech, in this case a virtual reality system that allows shipyard planners to visualize the shipyard and the way in which ships and materials move around. Next up for Bardex: work to deliver the largest shiplift in the Western Hemisphere, a mammoth system with 29,700-tons of capacity being installed at Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax to support its work for the Canadian Navy.
