Across British Columbia's challenging terrain runs Canadian Pacific's busy transcontinental main. The Shuswap Sub takes the main over the Monashee Mountains at Eagle Pass. It's a busy line with both freight and passenger trains.

The line climbs Eagle Pass in the Monashee Mountains, then past historic Craigellachie of last spike fame, through the Notch Hill Loop, alongside Shuswap lake and down the valley of the North Thompson River. When we visited in 2001 we saw action red locomotives in the spectacular scenery of beautiful British Columbia - what's not to love?
