About this show: It was a rainbow of color and equipment during the few years right after Amtrak took over the nation's passenger routes. Amtrak inherited passenger equipment, including locomotives, from 20 different railroads. It was nothing to see a fleet of passenger cars in Union Pacific, Great Northern, Northern Pacific or Illinois Central livery - pulled by locomotives still painted for Southern Pacific or Milwaukee Road - even Penn Central.
