A couple of days ago, I posted about whether I'd attend London Climate Action Week. It's happening this week, and it's unbelievably hot; set to get hotter, with June records across the country likely to be broken, maybe forever. I have a minor heart condition, bradycardia, so the long and short of it is: I'm in my garden at home rather than at London Climate Action Week. I've just stepped into the sun briefly to record this video, and I'll be heading straight back into the shade in front of a fan to take proper care of myself — which I hope is what most people are doing right now too.

What can one say? Oh, the cosmic irony. It's hard to believe it's come to this: events at London Climate Action Week being cancelled, postponed, or moved online, with a real sense of jeopardy hanging over the ones still going ahead. That's our reality now, tragically. While Britain gets swept up in the drama of who our next prime minister will be, the far greater and more sobering truth is the dawning realization of our climate plight taking another step into people's collective imagination.

I'm incredibly sorry to be missing London Climate Action Week, but I'm far sorrier that it's come to this — that we're seeing records tumble once again, already surpassing the long hot summer of 1976. This is climate breakdown in action, and we need to get serious about every part of it. It starts with resilience. It starts with taking care of yourselves. And right now, for me, it starts with going back inside.
