Stayed at Bertha's 'casa particular' in Havana, recommended by a porter at the hotel in Veradero, where i landed. Bertha was a wonderful hostess. On a visit to the Havana Aquarium, i started a conversation with Andrea, a security gaurd there. I wanted to practice my Spanish, which is still stumbling to this day. Andrea offered to show me around her Havana when she was off work. What a wonderful and enriching tour she provided for me, including dinner at her Mama's casa. When Andrea wasn't available, I toured famous locations like the Malecon, and even took a short 3 class course at the Teatro Nacional in Popular Afrocuban dance, which included an introduction to Rumba. The music is an old Cuban folk song from an old deleted classical guitar album that I had loved and lost. I arranged my memory of the melody for my voice, classical guitar and flugelhorn.
