Hatton Garden is famous for diamonds, but this walk reveals a much richer and stranger story hiding behind the shop windows. In this film I explore the streets around Hatton Garden, Clerkenwell and Little Italy, uncovering layers of London history that stretch from medieval saints and ancient wells to Italian revolutionaries, Victorian theatres, miracle relics and modern architecture. Along the way we visit one of London’s oldest churches, step into the world of jewellery traders and diamond cutters, wander historic markets and alleys, and trace the stories of immigrants, entertainers, engineers and radicals who shaped this part of the city. This area has been a place of craft, trade and refuge for centuries.
