Hey everyone- another original song. I wrote this on Friday night / Saturday and decided to record it as I am learning Reaper and need a lot of practice on mixing and such. I am not sure where and how I come up with some of the rather strange lyrics but they seem (to me) to fit the mood of what I am writing at the time. Once the words take some shape, abstract or not, I see imagery which sometimes evolves into a story. So in other words the story unfolds for me from the words and not vice versa. I don't know, maybe my subconscious is at play here too. As far as the story in my head in some ways I thought of the Walking Dead. The character of Maggie Greene was so incredibly strong in the season opener that I envisioned her child eventually becoming a savior of sorts who may or may not wield a hatchet. Again, this came to mind after the lyrics. The two words hatchet and baby came together out of the blue organically.
Anyway, I had a really tough time trying to master the mix. I seem to be missing some important plugins used for mastering. I also could not get the usb mic and had to go the shitty route for this recording. It is afterall, just a Demo. I also still have not come up for a "band" or "artist" name for this project. I know it will come to me.
Like any demo the final product may vary wildly from this version. Let me know what you think. Be honest. I have a thick skin.
By the way, I think aesthetically Hatchet Baby would fit well on an EP with Shame which I posted up last week- check it out:
