Hard Truth for Chunners- You are still doing the Chum Kiu Applications. Biu Tze or Bil Jee? (Part 2)

Everyone wants to work hard and eaarn the third and forth forms in Wing Chun, But Wing CHun is defined as not following the classical methods of Asian Martial Arts. We do not offer new forms for every new application, instead, the Wing Chun Form's are more like a martial art of themselves.

The first form has little footwork and is basically just a self defense primer to begin with. It can be thought of in simple terms as double moves like a Tan Sau with Punch. It is trained like any other introdcution to martial arts.

The Second Form, the CHum Kiu, adds the kicking and some footword, it has more combos and it has close in elbow hacking. It can be thought of as a complete kickboxing type of martial art. Level changes and ground fighting can be included here too. It is the first completely Kung Fu CMA type of thing too.

Many advanced WIng Chun skills will arrise from this work. Chi Sau training contains these sets for improving the Kung Fu skills. The third martial art then must emerge from the hard work. In WIng Chun we offer a new form once the solo drills begin to have an effect on the free flowing drills. Only then will we give a student a form to refine the geometry of that skill. Think about it, all the basics are in the first two, so for geometry, those are great, and we instead want to do partner sets for most other training. Only then would the various solo drills and chi sau section results be put into a new form.

Once student start doing the Biu Tze Form, their Wing Tsun will change from it. If they change this way to early, instead of forming the changes as natural habits in chi sau, it is very hard to escape the Chum Kiu. The third form, what I call Bil Jee, becomes another set of tools for kickboxing instead of a new way to use it. It is my opinion that the early and middle period of Ving Tsun was caught in this classical mess and only a few select Si-Fu's learned otherwise.

Wooden Dummy is the final part of this. It is not a new martial art, but instead the total refinement of all together. Since it is used the entire time, starting with air punching, then a single wall bag, and working up from one limb into t a full Dummy along the way,...it has been with a Chunner the whole time. We start staff and swords at this point, and those will become our new martial arts to train in, synergizing always witht he core.
