I’m low on hand drill fire boards. The one I have left is from spalted White Oak. From the wood pile, let’s grab a piece of White Oak with Turkey Tail mushrooms on it (indicating possible spalting within) and release some of those GOOD fire boards.
Many times the wood and the fire boards thereof are already dry enough to produce embers. Today, it was not dry. So, I used my last dry fire board which was already set up for 2 hole and made the ember to start the fire which dried and burned down a log cabin fire lay. Nice save!
