Do you really need a million tools to start making shoes? 🛠️👞
I talk about this all the time. To start making shoes, you don't need much. Real shoemakers—the ones who actually make shoes, not just talk about the theory—use a very specific, basic set of tools to get the work done. You do not need to overcomplicate the task ahead of you!
In my latest video, I explain the difference between two specific shoemaking hammers. One is designed for working on a shoemaker's stand, and the other is strictly for working on your lap. You can't use the same one for both situations, and you need to understand why.
It all comes down to how you work. I love working on my lap. I have perfect control over my hands and the leather when I create my bespoke shoes, so I always use the specific hammer meant for lap work. That is my approach.
