When on each side of the Hamiltonian cycle on a small octahedron a single layer of magnets is placed, that shape can be rolled along the path, moving along a zig-zag path. The big shape is made with units that are made with octahedra on which the lines next to the Hamiltonian cycle are extended. They form a shape of which the surface is a lattice that is built up the same way as Schoen's I-WP surface, that can be found on the page: http://www.susqu.edu/brakke/evolver/examples/periodic/periodic.html
To represent the I-WP surface properly, there should be chambers where 8 arrowheads meet, so the arrowheads should open up like a flower a bit.
