According to Mission Possible Partnership, around $1.7 trillion would need to be spent globally between now and 2050 to support the 38 percent of flights that will be using alternative propulsion systems such as hydrogen and battery-electric at the end of the period.
With the vast majority of expenditure (90 percent) expected to be in off-airport infrastructure including renewable energy production, and costs for on-airport hydrogen infrastructure comparable to many existing airport infrastructure projects, how far does the industry need to encourage investment and supply for aviation? What do early airport refueling ecosystems look like? Is it last mile delivery or on site production? What is the vision for the very largest airports?
