Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is one of the most unique and my personal favorite coasters. The ride stood proudly over Universal Studios Florida from 2009 through 2025 as the largest coaster from German manufacturer Maurer Rides. The striking vertical lift and first of its kind non inverting loop would be enough to most visitors, but the attractions main focus would be on the music. Allowing riders to choose from a list of 30 songs and an even longer list of secret ones, this novel concept would be executed greatly with individual speakers on each seat as well as cameras built into the trains to allow riders to make their own music video on a roller coaster. This original lineup of songs is so firmly planted in 2009, and along with the queue video animation having a nostalgic animation akin to Sketchers commercials of the time, this ride has always been an amazing time capsule to me, and really is the perfect final chapter of Universals parks of the era. A year later the Wizarding World of Harry Potter would open next door at Islands of Adventure, and not just change Universal, but the entire theme park landscape into fully immersive highly detailed worlds. While this sweeping change would save Universal completely in the long run, the simplicity of a ride where you make your own music video, or the countless behind the scenes attractions of Universal at the time such as Disaster and Twister are worth honoring and respecting. Thats what I really wanted to try and do, create a time capsule of the ride as Rockit was to me, as the strange song lineup which remained largely unchanged until 2023 is such a fun and diverse mix that exemplifies the generation it was concieved.
