After finding a second life, wooden coasters would see another lull, with more simple designs and classic relocations. This would change with two men who paid an integral part in bringing wooden coasters back to begin with, Charles Dinn and Curtis D Summers, opening their own firm to push to break more wooden coaster records. Only lasting a few short years, their shoes would quickly be filled by a new company, Custom Coasters International, ringing in a new generation of designers who would push wooden coasters again, but in a different way. Instead of going as big as possible, the design philosophy would change, packing more modern and intense elements into more compact and affordable layouts for small parks around the world. This is part two of a series detailing the full history of wooden coasters, taking us to one of the most exciting chapters following the tightly contested coaster wars, where spending on new rides has never been higher.
