Obviously a gimbal is expensive, bulky and delicate, so can a gyro stabilsed camera do as good a job in normal use, with benefit of lower cost, waterproof housing etc.
I saw a great video (Link below) on the new cheap gyro stabilised action camera's, and best value/performance looked to be the Firefly 6S so I ordered one to play with.
Firefly 6S is running v2.5 firmware (latest today), I really like that it takesd 1080p/60fps video, and that its identical size to gopro3, so fits in gopro enclosures/gimbals, even takes gopro3 batteries (I use cheap aftermarket batts and chargers but nice to share them) - this alone puts it ahead of the Yi/SJ4000 etc in my book.
Side by side test all three camera's are in 1080 60fps, but obviously this is rendered down to 1080 60fps for comparison of the stabilisation/gyro/gimbal difference.

I don't recommend any specific sellers (I bought this with my own money to try out), so suggest you always google/check for cheapest price in your country on the day and buy cheapest, but this is the one I bought as I know people always ask for a link :)
