This is a short selection from one of my Introduction to Philosophy classes taught at Marist College, a session which was focused on the Self-Consciousness section of G.W.F Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit, specifically on the "Master-Slave Dialectic". This is a bit of an introductory-level lecture, intended to help students who have no background in philosophy better understand this rather difficult text.

In this short bit which is from midway through the lecture, I discuss what the master-slave dialectic might look like using a specific example that would be familiar to my Marist College students since the Culinary Institute of America was just down the road from them, namely the process of "old-school" culinary education
