I've been meaning to hit on this topic for a LONG time, and in today's video I'll share the foundations of my approach to miking electric guitar amps and acoustic guitars.
This is the start of hopefully a longer and more detailed and diverse exploration of mics, mic techniques, and more - but I've gotten a lot of mileage out of this straight-forward approach to recording guitar at home and in the studio. I wanted to start with how to mic an electric guitar amp and showcase a simple approach to my acoustic guitar mic technique as well.
We'll be looking specifically at two microphones from Warm Audio : the Fen-Tone ribbon mic and WA-19 dynamic microphone. I've been using and enjoying both for different guitar applications in the studio recently, and think the pair can cover a lot of ground. We'll explore both microphones on both electric and acoustic guitar and talk about some basics to my mic technique along the way.
