Guided mountaineering trips by big companies have fundamental flaws that make it less likely their clients will get to the top of the mountain. You can increase your summit success by running your own expedition and using logistics, porters, mules, and even guides as needed or desired. The big flaw with guided trips is their schedule is inconsistent with weather and the physical capabilities of their clients. It is impossible to predict how the weather will be more than two weeks out. It is also impossible to predict your body's reaction to the pacing and the altitude. Guided trips are at best run to satisfy the median climber in the group. At worst they are run to suit the lead guide or the guiding company without regard to clients needs. Either way, the guided trips won't refund your money regardless of how the trip goes, if you get altitude sickness or you cannot try at the summit due to bad weather. The potential clients need to adopt a flexible mindset in terms of time and take a more proactive attitude about managing risk in mountain expeditions than being a passive tourist if they want to improve summit success rates.
