Buro Happold proudly supported Guide Dogs UK as a trusted advisor for their new dog training centre and offices in Redbridge. Collaborating with Kay Elliott Architects, we delivered exceptional accessibility, inclusive design and lighting.
This new regional centre is the charity's first new building in 15 years. Our team provided multi-disciplinary specialist consulting on spatial requirements, signage clarity, and creating inclusive spaces for neurodivergent individuals.
Key features include an indoor training area, a covered outdoor training zone, and routes with tactile surfaces for dog training. We also focused on natural and adjustable lighting, acoustic management, and environmental impacts.
By creating more inclusive spaces, we help Guide Dogs UK employ a diverse range of people and retain staff by supporting their different needs. Our design interventions go beyond basic regulations, striving for best practices informed by British Standards. This commitment to inclusivity and accessibility not only benefits the organisation but also contributes to a more equitable and supportive environment for everyone.
