Streetfilms® | Guess How Much Time it Took to Count 500 Users on Queens 34th Avenue Open Street? @StreetfilmsCommunity | Uploaded August 2021 | Updated October 2024, 37 minutes ago.
Our neighborhood contains a small group of loud and angry people who actually believe that most days only a few hundred people (or less!) use the 34th Open Street in Queens over the 12 hours it is open for people - yes, you read that right - New York City's shining beacon of success when it comes to NYC DOT's opening streets program.
Last night I decided to go out on the median and see how long it took to reach 500 users (I actually got to 554 in 36 minutes) but figured a nice round number was best so those ignorant folks can comprehend it.
Most nice weather evenings this is about the norm. I'd say the average number of people using it is about this pace most of the time starting at 5/530pm right on thru to 8pm ending most nights.
Just a note about the count, I did one roughly while camera rolled and then re-counted the numbers as I re-watched the video. The numbers were very close to the same.
For counting purposes, here were the rules:
- No one using sidewalks was counted.
- No one I could see on the median was counted, but they should have been.
- No one was counted that crossed on 83rd Street that didn’t use open street.
- Animals were not counted.
- Babies and children in strollers were certainly counted. As well as passengers on a bike or moped.
- The guy in the purple t-shirt running laps was only counted once.
