Today we a going to be talking about the Icelandic myth, Gryla, another monster for the Christmas season. She is a mythological giantess that supposedly lives in the mountains of Iceland. She is able to detect the naughty children year round, however, she actively looks for misbehaving children in nearby towns to be apart of her next meal, and according to the legend, Gryla will never have a shortage of food. According to folklore, she has been married three times, and she lives with her husband in their cave in the Dummuborgir lave fields. as a side note, Dimmuborgir translates to "Dark Cities". As Christmas time comes around, she sets off to find any naughty and misbehaving child to become food for the incoming year. Of course, this story was told only to scare misbehaving children into being good. The legend has been told in various songs, plays, and stories. Most of the time, she dies at the end of these stories, any other time, she lives. Now, because of this, I just have to ask you. Have you been good this year?
