By implementing common-sense policies—such as extending the closed fishing season, enforcing a strict 30-fish catch limit using only bare hands, and suspending mechanical beach grooming during vulnerable spawning windows—the grunion population has experienced a rapid rebound. Ultimately, the lecture highlights the grunion's recovery as a model for modern coastal conservation, demonstrating how combining adaptive shore management, citizen science, and respect for local recreational traditions can successfully protect a vulnerable species.
