I decided to do a Growing UP Cheetahs short series. This is Jesse the Great Cheetah Mother. She is part of a breeding program at Cheetah Experience in South Africa. One season when volunteering there, I got to see her young cubs nurse and then quickly grow up. It was a small glimpse of Jesse and her babies cubs. There are three. Leonard, Love, and Life.

They were about two weeks old and very fragile and vulnerable. In the wild, some cheetah mothers loose 90% of their cubs before adulthood. It's why successes like this are so important. Numbers are declining in the wild and it's a numbers game of extinction for the cheetah.

I follow these cubs to their yearling age but due to volunteering only twice a year, I only get snapshots of their development. But it's enough to see the changes in their lives.

In Part 2 of Growing UP Cheetahs, I showcase their daily routine which encompasses basically play, sleep, and eat at 2 months old. They are very vulnerable at this age and special precautions have to be met in order to keep them safe.

They are watched 24/7. Sanitization is crucial to prevent unwanted infections which could sicken or even kill them. That is why mothers milk is important in the 1st steps of a new born cheetah cub. The colostrum and milk provide adds protection from infections. The colostrum actually coats the intestines that helps prevent viruses or bacteria from entering the body.

They grow up so fast. In just a few weeks they doubled in size. Just look at them at the end of he video! I'll have Part 2 ready sometime soon to show you.

Please like this video if you like it ;)

Thanks for watching!
