A psychadellic quartzite mining town with stone buildings and a tunnel to Machu Picchu... something new!
We arrived in Sao Thome des Letras and wondered if our Fiat Mobi could handle the roads. It looks like they are 'natural roads' - meaning massive of chunks of rock take a dirt road feel like the Autobahn. Top speed to be achieved here is around 9 kph. Fun Fact: There are no stop signs here because everyone is driving to slow anyway.
But, we made it! And we started our adventure by wandering around the main square and city. They've got stone churches, houses, hotels and more. The local quartzite mine has plenty of somewhat flat and rectangular stones, that people stack to make their walls. They have a reddish, orangish, yellowish hue and look like a million bucks. A great place to wander!
By this point we noticed the hippies, and the endless alien souvenirs for sale. We learned about some whacky 'history' -- more of a mythology that makes Sao Thome Des Letras one of the more unique places we've ever been. Ancient tunnels, aliens, earth's energy centres... all the mystics are out in full force over here.
What makes this place even better is: there are waterfalls all around. And, good waterfalls! For swimming and splashing and instagramming. We brought our sweet baby Jean to one of the easier to traverse ones, and had some fun in the sun. The highlight for both Ivana and I.
Afterwards we failed at watching an awesome sunset, but succeeded in listening to a talented musician play some acoustic songs. Then, dinner and lastly, IVANA SAW A GHOST. (Acutally, I learned she's seen 3 ghosts so far. I have only heard the 1 story)
