Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg took the podium at a pro-Palestinian rally in Milan, Italy on Friday, where she was met with a roar of applause upon fellow her fellow demonstrators, “Silence is complicity, you cannot be neutral in a genocide.”

Though Thunberg is known for her work in climate activism, she has attended numerous pro-Palestinian rallies since Israel began its military onslaught against Hamas militants in Gaza last October. Since then, more than 42,000 Palestinians have been killed.

Israel’s continued attacks in Gaza come in response to Hamas killing roughly 1,200 and kidnapping approximately 250 people in south Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

Last month, Thunberg was arrested by Danish police during a pro-Palestinian demonstration at the University of Copenhagen. Along with a group of student organizers, the 21-year-old was detained after entering an administrative building that houses the office of the rector — the university’s head official.
