As the temperature rises, our oceans and waterways become even more enticing. Unfortunately, this is also the time of year when injured and sick marine turtles begin arriving at the Taronga Wildlife Hospital. In just the past fortnight, we’ve received three turtles – and sadly two have since passed away.
This young adult male Green Turtle was lethargic and emaciated when he came to us. Our veterinary team have assessed him and administered fluids to rehydrate him. Now we wait to see if he recovers.
When you’re out there on the water in boats, drive carefully and remember that we share these incredible environments with an array of marine creatures and boat strikes can be fatal. Please also take all your rubbish with you so it doesn’t end up in the ocean – or the stomach of one of these beauties.
