Great Smoky Mountains Railroad: #1702 Fall Nantahala Gorge 10-8/9-2022.
Every Fall, thousands upon thousands of people journey to the mountains of North Carolina to enjoy the Fall colors of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Many of those people journey to the town of Bryson City for one of the greatest vantage points to see the colors, the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad (GSMR).
Because of the mass influx of passengers, the GSMR has almost everyone and everything on deck, and runs two trips on the popular Nantahala Gorge excursion. Power for these runs on Tuesdays through Sundays is former US Army Transportation Corps. #1702.
*The main difference however, diesel locomotive #2668 got a fresh red paint job, which is not finished completely.
*The only cosmetic change from last time was a darker grey smokebox. The reason is because the cinders accumulated throughout the season will be less noticeable.
So, sit back, relax, and enjoy steam and Fall colors in the Smokies!
