Herons can be found on each continent expect on Antarctica.

Herons have good vision can hunt during the night as well as the day.

Great herons stay clean after eating because they have specialized feathers on their chest that will grow continuously and fray into a powder. This powder can be used to help clean off fish slime.

On hot days , a great heron. can be spotted with dropped wings and an open beak. The bird will be fluttering their throat muscles to increase evaporation, an action called gular fluttering an avian version of panting. The drooped wings allow air flow to help remove excess heat.

Herons spend approximately 90 percent of their waking hours stalking for food.

Herons will use their sharp, dagger like bills to stab at a prey.

Herons can eat up to 11 pounds of fish a day, about the same weight as two bags of flour.

They can seem motionless when looking for a prey.
