This episode looks at the life and work of the West-Indian born Camille Pissarro – the only Impressionist artist to exhibit at all eight of the Impressionist exhibitions that were staged in Paris between 1874 and 1876. He was the leader of the original group and greatly influenced Cezanne and Gauguin as they began their respected careers. Influenced himself by Seurat, Pissarro worked almost exclusively in the countryside around Paris. His most famous painting is the superb ‘Boulevard Mont-martre’, which hangs in London’s National Gallery.
