In this part, Ryunosuke explains Shamspeare's motive. Shamspeare killed Duncan Ross using the gas pipe. He attempted to kill Mr. Natsume in the same way. Why? He wanted to search that room for the valuable loot that the prisoner Selden had hidden inside. It's revealed Shamspeare was Selden's cellmate, and Selden spoke of the hidden loot with his dying breath.
Ryunosuke proposes using Sherlock Holmes' skin print device, to locate the hidden loot. Holmes readily agrees, if Ryunosuke can give him a sample of Selden's skin. Ryunosuke presents Selden's key, which is around Miss Green's neck.
Shamspeare confesses to everything, followed by Miss Green's confession.
