He goes to the prison, where he talks with Mr. Natsume. Natsume gives more details about the death of the former tenant, and his fears that he will die in the same way.
Our heroes talk to Mr. Garrideb, who also talks about the former tenant. Ross died of suffocation, when his room filled up with gas. Shamspeare showed great interest in that room, and he twice attempted to secure it. Garrideb has a love letter from Ross, which proves he was dating Miss Green.
