American Gothic is perhaps the most recognized painting in the United States by an American artist. However, the artist, Grant Wood, is not always recognized as a leading American artist by the critics. In 1983 the Whitney Museum in New York City, attempted to rehabilitate his image with a major exhibition of Wood's work. This is a story I did for the Today Show about the exhibition in 1983 which included an interview with his sister who was the model for the woman in American Gothic.
