Strap:
With your bag laying flat, fold it in half from where your last stitch was made so the sides line up naturally.
Count 7 squares working toward the outer edge, then continue across 7 more.
These 14 squares will be where you create your first strap.
Add a stitch marker into 14th square.
Decrease Row 1:
Ch 3 (counts as dc), sk 2 ch, dc into next dc โ notice you didnโt ch 2 here.
*Ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc into dc; repeat from * until 1 dc remains.
Dc into final dc โ again, no ch 2 at the end.

Decrease Row 2:
Ch 3, turn.
Sk 2 ch, dc into next dc.
Be careful not to work into the dc directly under your turning ch-3.
*Ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc into dc; repeat from * until 1 dc remains.
Dc into final dc โ no ch 2 at the end.
Decrease Row 3โ4 :
Repeat Decrease Row 2 until you have 6 squares remaining.
You will decrease by 2 for each row.
Strap Row 5:
Ch 5 (counts as dc + ch 2), turn.
Sk 2 ch, dc into next dc.
Be careful not to work into the dc directly under your turning ch-3.
*Ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc into dc; repeat from * across.
(6 squares)
Strap Rows 6โ20:
Ch 5 (counts as dc + ch 2), turn.
Sk 2 ch, dc into next dc.
*Ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc into dc; repeat from * across, placing final dc in 3rd ch of ch-5.
(6 squares)
Youโll maintain 6 squares across each row as you go.
Increase Row 21:
Ch 6 (counts as tr + ch 2), turn.
Dc into base of ch-6.
*Ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc into dc; repeat from * across, placing final dc in 3rd ch of ch-5.
Ch 2, tr into base of last dc.
(8 squares)
Increase Rows 22โ24:
Repeat Increase Row 21 until you have brought the strap back to 14 squares across.
Each row will increase by 2 squares.
Seaming:
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold the bag to align the base of the straps evenly. Use a whip stitch or your preferred method to attach the strap to the bag. Make sure the double crochet stitches line up. Weave in all ends.
