The classic South Kaibab to Bright Angel rim-to-river route is closed through mid-2026 at minimum due to extended closures on the river trail between River Rest House, Silver Bridge, and Plateau Point. Some online sources suggest rim-to-rim will reopen south to north on May 15, but that timeline is unrealistic given the scope of work remaining. I walk through what's actually closed, why the optimistic dates don't hold up, and what alternatives you can still hike right now if you're planning a Grand Canyon trip this year.
