After nearly 8 months of work and extensive research, I have decided to reveal my CLK GTR recreation project after the completion of its initial phase! My intention is to recreate as closely as possible the model which was in Gran Turismo 2 before it got cut. As nothing from this model remains in the game, I had to create the model and textures from scratch, basing it on 4 screenshots of it and a render. As additional references I've also made use of nearly 150 photos of the real car.
The model shown in the video is still far from complete as there are numerous issues left to deal with and also lack of proper handling and sounds, but it is now fully textured and playable in-game. This particular version doesn't have any decals yet, but it does have the blue mirrors from the 1997 Suzuka 1000km winning car #10 (yet the decals in the render and in-game are actually based on car #11).
I've started this recreation back in March shortly after model modding finally became possible thanks to commongear's cdotool. Initially I've played around with converting the CLK GTR from NFSIII, pics of which some of you might've seen reposted on Twitter without my permission, but I felt that it will be way better to properly remake the model and this has indeed proved to be a great challenge.
Huge thanks to @MattJ155 for sending me high quality scans of the magazine which helped a lot as the previously available scans were of much lower quality. He also requested the recreation of another cut car, which is also nearly completed and will be revealed very soon, so stay tuned for that!
