I missed Clint Eastwood's film GRAN TORINO when it came out in 2008, and I'm sorry I did. Because not only is it a strong, distinctly American story about race and redemption in America's crumbling neighborhoods, IT HAS ASIANS IN IT. That's right, ASIANS. Lots of them! In lead roles! And ASIAN AMERICANS, to boot! But more importantly, GRAN TORINO, despite its modest scope, speaks volumes about America, as do so many of Eastwood's films.
