Sheriff Robert G. Luna was joined by Captain Adam Cornils, Burbank Police Department; Chief Jason Sims, Culver City Police Department; Chief Saul Rodriguez, El Segundo Police Department; Deputy Chief Andrew Jenks, Glendale Police Department and Assistant Police Chief Robert Dunn, Torrance Police Department in presenting the 26 graduates with their Peace Officer Standards and Training certificates.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Recruits complete and graduate from their rigorous 22-Week academy which encompassed intense physical training, conditioning, defensive tactics, leadership, criminal law, tactics, emergency vehicle operations, weapons training, policy and procedures.
Academy Class #472 is reflective of the vast array of cultures, backgrounds, and experiences found within Los Angeles County. Of the (27) graduating recruits, (16) speak a language other than English, including Armenian, Japanese, Spanish and Russian with (3) having lived outside the United States of America. A few graduates bring with them a tradition and history of service with (4) graduating recruits having a background in law enforcement along with (5) graduating recruits who have served within the Armed Forces including the Army, and Marine Corps.
Additionally, (5) of the graduating recruits are following in their families footsteps who are either current or former law enforcement for various agencies including California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Culver City Police Department, Los Angeles Police Department, and Torrance Police Department.
Academy Class #472 brings with them a diversified source of higher education (8), with an emphasis in agricultural science, health administration, kinesiology, philosophy, biology, criminal justice and sociology.
