Los Angeles County Sheriff, Robert Luna joined ABC7 news today to discuss how ongoing federal immigration activity within our communities is affecting our daily operations. Aside from the protests, we continue to do our “day job” and pursue individuals who commit crime, which is unrelated to immigration. Our department does not enforce civil immigration laws, nor do we ask about an individual’s immigration status when we respond to calls for service. We recognize the fear and anxiety that our community is experiencing right now, and we want to reassure everyone that our role is public safety, not immigration enforcement. We continue to monitor, plan, and prepare for the days ahead and will facilitate peaceful protests. I’m grateful for the chance to highlight the tireless work of our deputies, who are out there 24/7 protecting our communities.
