The first in a (hopefully) ongoing series of one-night compositions.
This piece is heavily inspired by Amiga MODs; particularly the work of Ben Daglish and TDK. Although clearly made in a modern DAW, and using all sorts of effects that were impossible on the Amiga, I did attempt to bare the four monophonic channels limit in mind throughout the whole piece. There's a lot of layering going on, but really this could be convincingly translated to the Amiga!
Notably, except for some hi-hats creeping in at the end, I was particular eager to have a single, simple snare as the only percussion. There aren't even any kicks; just two basses!

No movie franchise has made a bigger impact on gaming than Star Wars, which boasts well over a hundred separate releases for practically every system that has ever existed. Adaptations of the much loved original trilogy, and its later sequels, have grown in sophistication with each passing year.
Since LucasArts was founded in 1982 by George Lucas himself, its connection to Star Wars runs deep. Therefore, their releases have always been celebrated as authentic and rich expansions on established lore, through loving storylines, varied gameplay and, naturally, incredible audio.
To help explore the franchise’s early days, I spoke to Paul Webb – best known for his work on Super Star Wars. From there, you can’t discuss the further growth of LucasArts through the 90s, and on into the naughties, without Clint Bajakian – and Peter McConnell – who both also composed for Indiana Jones. Between the four of us, we’ll cover the sound of Star Wars adaptations from the Nintendo Entertainment System up to the PlayStation 1 and PCs, when CD audio took over from chiptune.

An internet simulator set at the turn of the 21st century, Hypnospace Outlaw is one of my favourite games that I played in 2020. Its dripping in 90s nostalgia, and its keen sense of humour is colourful as youre invited into a faithful parody of online tropes from the time.

The second chapter of a 15-part serial released in 1943.
As Linda Page continues to worry about her Uncle Martins disappearance, Batman & Robin follow a lead surrounding a man with a scar on his wrist. Meanwhile, Linda herself is snatched and Alfred gets meta.
This is Batmans live-action debut, and it was especially important for creating and popularising Alfred Pennyworth as we know him. Before this, he was more of a chubby cockney wideboy. Otherwise, its known for doing away with Batman & Robins vigilantism and casting them as government agents at the height of World War II. As such, the entire Batman serial from 1943 is as xenophobic as youd expect. But, theres more than enough intrigue here for a modern fan whos able to ignore some of the outdated attitudes on display.
