In This weeks Radio Dork news, following in the steps of United States Senator Ted Cruz, Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson has published a video message on Youtube praising amateur radio operators for their critical role during widespread emergency events and disasters when amateur radio is often the only form of communication. In the video message, published on Youtube, The Governor also gives praise the upcoming ARRL field day as a way for the public to see amateur radio in action.
Amateur Radio enthusiasts in Canada, Mexico and the United States will be participating in the 2026 Football On The Air Special Event from June 11 through July 19, to celebrate the 2026 World Soccer Tournament, operating on VHF, UHF, HF, and in both analog and digital modes, and with 16 cities participating there will be 16 wonderful QSL cards to collect and a certificate.

Stephen Cass, callsign KB1WNR, an editor for the magazine IEEE Spectrum, is experimenting with transmitting Teletext over VHF and HF using AX.25, after being inspired by a similar service that the BBC offered over the air for analog television, enabling viewers to choose what they wanted to read on their television screens by entering codes on their TV remote-control. Anyone wanting to participate in the these amateur radio Teletext over the air experiments can contact KB1WNR via the IEEE Spectrum Magazine website at Spectrum.ieee DOT org
