More allegations of political interference against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu have emerged at the Madlanga Commission. An audio recording of an alleged phone call involving KZN Hawks’ Lt-Col. Deena Govender was played before the commission. Govender alleges Mchunu pressured him to falsely implicate KZN Police Commissioner Lt-Gen. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in deadly police shootings and promised him protection.
