Hindmarsh Island is a good 90 minutes away from where we currently live. Is it worth the ride? Well it’s a lot of straight and lengthy roads. Do I like straight roads - NO. But, every riding day is a good day right? YES.
Hindmarsh Island was a big disappointment and is not in any way a tourist destination. I ended my Might Murray Paddle on the beach opposite the entrance to the ocean on Hindmarsh and that was my only previous visit. There is a bit of a marina and thee is a pub (for the residents?), but there isn’t much else for tourism. Unless of course people are renting out their marina waterside house as an AirBnB. Personally, it’s not really a location that would attract me for accomodation or a stay, because there isn’t anything much to do in the marina section except get out the kayak. For those living on one of the fingers of the marina maybe it’s a good quiet location but for anyone on the main road through, which is the road we took, it’s just a housing estate where the odd one or two houses have a view of the estuary or the river. Looking at the development plans however, in future, those views would well disappear as the rest of the housing lots are sold off. Anyway, the good part of this “look-see” is there is not reason to go back. Goolwa however has a lot to offer. Pubs, restaurants and cafes for starters, and a very good market. Check it out if you get down this way…….

We’ve taken BMW GS700s from Ushuaia to Machu Pichu in South America, taken RE Classic 500’s around Rajasthan in India, ridden off road in Cyprus, and covered a lot of New South Wales on R1’s and Fazer 600’s, and South Australia on MT09’s and now Kawasaki Z650RS’s.
The road never ends for motorcycle adventurers.
We’re all about bringing you a weekly #motovlog videos riding motorbikes, in particular our twin Kawasaki Z650RS’s. We do this full time. We love adventure travel, extreme travel, and sometimes just easy relaxing travel along with the odd skydive and bungee jump. Just like so many bikers, we need varied and specific clothing and equipment, tyres, good servicing, great routes and good mates. So we aim to offer you suggestions, our experience, our knowledge, and some genuine good ideas.
