Join us on Saturdays as Jon Pounders goes through the New Testament with you.
In Matthew 6–7, the heart of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches true kingdom righteousness. He calls for secret, sincere devotion in giving, prayer (giving the Lord’s Prayer as the model), and fasting, rather than hypocritical display. He forbids storing up earthly treasure and serving money, instead urging single-hearted devotion to God and childlike trust in the Father’s provision (“Seek first the kingdom of God…do not be anxious”).
Chapter 7 warns against hypocritical judgment, promises answers to bold prayer, and sums up the Law in the Golden Rule. Jesus exposes false prophets (known by their fruit), declares that only those who do the Father’s will enter the kingdom, and closes with the parable of the wise and foolish builders: hearing and obeying His words is the only foundation that survives the coming storm. The crowds are stunned by His authority.
