Google announced Saturday that it will begin displaying “Lake America” on Maps for users in the United States after President Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario amid a trade dispute with Canada.
The lake sits between Ontario and New York. Trump floated the name change earlier last week, saying the U.S. did not expect to do much business with Ontario any longer.
In a statement, Google said users in Canada will continue to see “Lake Ontario,” while users outside the U.S. and Canada will see both names, with “Lake America” appearing in parentheses.
