Dracunculus medinensis, commonly known as the Guinea worm, is a nematode parasite that can infect humans.

Only 10 human cases of Guinea worm disease were reported worldwide in 2025, the lowest number ever recorded, bringing the ancient disease closer than ever to eradication.

For nearly 40 years, we have led the international campaign to eradicate Guinea worm disease, working closely with ministries of health and our partners.
