Help us laugh the Harper government's ad campaign to greenwash the tar sands right off the air by sharing with your friends and signing the petition at stopgreenwash.ca
The Harper government currently plans to spend $16 million of taxpayer money on ads that greenwash the tar sands. What the government's ad campaign doesn't tell you is how Canadian environmental laws were gutted in order to fast-track new tar sands mines and pipelines as part of the omnibus budget bills. And it certainly doesn't tell you that unconstrained tar sands development has made Canada one of the world's biggest contributors to climate change.
We think this is ripe for some old-fashioned Canadian satire, so we've created our own ad campaign with the help of award-winning director Michael Kennedy and actors Peter Keleghan, Sheila McCarthy and Richard Blackburn.
Greenpeace will never be able to match the government and oil industry ad budgets, but with your help we can use humour to turn their own ad budgets against them. If enough people see our ads, the tar sands' spin doctors will realize that the more of our tax money that they spend on public relations to sell the tar sands as environmentally friendly, the more ridiculous they are making themselves look. Our goal is for them to cancel their ads faster than you can say, "oil spills create jobs."

![There is no word – a film by Carmel Whittle
As part of the Rethinking Nature Protection art call launched by Greenpeace Canada, 5 artists have created original work envisioning what better, decolonized protection of the natural world looks like.
Written, directed and edited by Carmel Whittle, this film is about rethinking nature protection: why we should and how we can do this. The narrator describes the basis for this rethinking: we are nature and not separate from nature. Therefore taking care of nature is taking care of ourselves. She teaches us the Seven Grandfather Teachings as a profound way of bringing this understanding into our lives – only truly thriving as the environment thrives. Doing the right thing requires that we care for, nurture, and heal every element of our environments: the air, waters, rock, plants, trees and all creatures. This way of thinking is rising in the world today, and from youth to elder the understanding is growing. Please listen to these teachings, and to nature.
